Then problem solved.

as i look into this, i see this statement on the dowload page for 2.0
"This version of the plugins works with JIRA 4.3 and greater. Please note that this version does not work with version other than 4.3."
umm...don't these two statement contradict each other? i'm using v4.4 and MS Project 2010..does it work?

Jira 4.3 and The Connector 2.0

Hello,
Could anyone advice with the issue below?
I am trying to evaluate "The Connector 2.0" for our company. After installing latest versions - The Connector 2.0 for Microsoft Project 2010 Build 4123 - JIRA Services for The Connector 2.0 for JIRA 4.3 or greater (version 2.0.0) - Updated 03/28/2011
I was able to connect "The Connector" with our Jira (Jira version 4.3.2), at least "The Connector" can extract project list and fields. BUT if I try to import tasks or resources I got the following issue: com.atlassian.jira.rpc.exception.RemoteValidationException: Query validation failed: The field 'text' does not support searching for an empty string.
I have tried both 2007 and 2010 Project, seems like this is the issue with services.
Is there any workaround for it?

Work/Duration not being updated

I have just found a work around, but YMMV with this solution.
after the import, if I update the actual work in MSProject for all tasks that have 0 Actual work, and then run the import again with Automatic Merging - the times are imported correctly....
ps - For some reason - I am unable to update the Work column or Remaining Work column where these values are set to 0

The import into MSProject 2010 is not updating any of the work (or duration) fields for Jira issues that have no actual work against them. (Work, Actual Work, Remaining Work)
I have a bunch of tasks that have not been started that have original Estimate and Remaining Estimate set in Jira, When these are imported into Project, they come across as 0 in Work, Actual Work, Remaining Work and Duration.
If I enter a minute against any of the issues, all fields are populated correctly.
I have tried many different configurations options - all with the same result... (including ignoring the worklog)
Any help appreciated

I had the same error when I had selected 'Import JIRA daily totals into the Microsoft Project assignment'
turning this setting off cleared the error.
setting found under Configure Edit specific profile Advanced Configure Duration and Work Actual work / JIRA Worklogs Configure Worklog Detail
easy.....

problems with "Automatic Import Merging"
thomas.schaare Posts 1

At the moment, I'm evaluating "The Connector 2.0" with MS Project 2003 and JIRA 4.1.2#531. I want to import and update JIRA issues from different JIRA projects to MS Project, where they should appear grouped by Project ID and Component. When I perform a new import, I use the Import Option "Append to the end of the list", on the tab "Import Projects Filters" I choose "Select from Saved Filters", select a specific filter and select "Group tasks under a project header". Then I select the tab "Group and Sort". On this tab I: - select "Group issues as they are imported" - select "Components description (Group by First)" from "Group By" - select "Create a header task for this group" - select from "Sorting Options" Primary Sort: Project ID and secondary sort: assignee
I have saved the Import Profile and performed an import, which worked fine. Within my MS Project file, I have now a list of tasks, beginning with a Project ID, e.g. "LPR", under this task, I have a task "Components Description (Group By First) - LprEngine". Under this tasks, I can see the different JIRA issues.
When I create a new JIRA issue, I want to perform an import, so that the imported task appears under the Project ID and the correct Project component. So a created a new Import Profile and changed the Import Option to "Use Automatic Import Merging". When a delete an ealier imported issue from the MS Project file and perform an import with the new Import Profile, the issues appears again, but not sorted into the list, but with no project header at the end of the list.
What so I do wrong? Perhaps anybody can give me a small example how to get the automatic sorting right. Many thanks in advance Thomas Schaare

Setting due date

While sending a test task from MS Project to Jira i always get an error message. I tried to setup the "Custom Date Mapping" and got the following message:
Issue MSPPTST-1 successfully loaded No due date found on the issue. Now attempting to set the due date of the issue to the current date... Translated Value: 18/Apr/11
ServiceManager.UpdateTask (Issue MSPPTST-1) com.atlassian.jira.rpc.exception.RemoteValidationException: Fields not valid for issue: Errors: {duedate=You did not enter a valid date. Please enter the date in the format "d/MMM/yy", eg. "18/Apr/11"} Error Messages: []
According to the message the date format is ok. I checked this in Jira as well.
Can anybody help? regards Benny

Replying to myself. Forgot to install com.ecliptictech.connector.jar plugin version 2.0-beta (link at the bottom of the download page) in Jira (it has to be copied in WEB-INF/lib). Now all seems to be fine, I'm able to test The Connector 2.0 RC with Project 2010 and Jira 4.1.1

The Connector 2.0 - Jira 4.1 and Project 2010

Hi, I have installed The Connector 2.0 (RC) in Project 2010 64 bits on Win7 and I'm trying to connect to Jira 4.1.1 without the advanced web services. The problem is that I can't synchronize data between Project and Jira (in both ways). I saved the user name and password in the config and bioth are ok (I tried a wrong password and got an error message). When I try to Send, Update or Synchronize the authenticating Windows appear and then disappear but nothing happens. When I try to 'Configure Duration and Work' the authentication dialog appears and siapeears too, and I get an error message: The AXIS engine could not find a target service to invoke. targetService is theconnector. Didn't found anything useful in Jira's Log.
Any idea what can be wrong?
Regards, Cedric.

How to overwrite the original estimate?
kelvin Posts 1

Hi Guys,
How to overwrite the original estimate? The option "Set JIRA remaining estimate to original estimate if no time spent" is checked. The option "Do not update original estimate if the issue has Time Spent" is no checked. The option "Adjusted Calculation" is checked. The "Duration" is include in "Send To Jira" And "Update From JIRA".
With the configuration above, the MS PROJECT CAN'T overwrite the original estimate in JIRA.
Anyone can help me?
Thank You.

Possible to skip Jira email notifications?

I'm currently barraging my teammates with 1000s of emails when I "Send to Jira". With the Bulk Update action in Jira, there is a checkbox for:
"Send mail for this update. By selecting this option, an update notification will be sent for each issue affected by this bulk operation "
Does the Connector have such a feature to disable emails on issue updates? Looked in the Configuration settings but couldn't find it
Thanks

There was a short email coversation which had faced that 'Do not map JIRA issue assignment on parent issues' should be turned off for me. Now it works.

Issues must be assigned & Description is required

I'm experiencing the same issue with both our JIRA installations (3.10 and 4.2). I've been able to use The Connector quite frequently before (v1.2), but things have been more tricky in v1.3. Allowing unassigned issues in JIRA "solves" the problem, but that configuration is not acceptable. It also seems easier to start with an existing project in JIRA, do the import and then add some new tasks to that project. Starting from scratch in MSP and send those issues to JIRA is always hours of headache.
Error msg:
Send To JIRA: ServiceManager.CreateTask The size necessary to buffer the XML content exceeded the buffer quota. 3 Task at EclipticTech.TheConnector.Core.ServiceManager.CreateTask(Credentials credentials, String projectkey, ConnectorTask task, MappingMask mappingMask, ConnectorContext context)....etc
